What does it mean to ‘sit with your feelings’?
✨ I’ve been pondering the phrase “sit with your feelings.”
What does that even mean? How do you do it? Is it just one of those woo-woo things people say to sound deep?
This week, at 2am (regretting my U-turn on coffee abstinence), I had an epiphany while re-reading Mark Manson’s The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck. On page 34, he writes:
👉 “Negative emotions are a call to action. When you feel them, it’s because you’re supposed to do something.”
That’s when it clicked. Sitting with my feelings isn’t about wallowing. It’s about taking a step back to notice what I’m feeling, asking why, and then using that awareness to choose my next step forward.
For so long, I avoided this. I kept busy, filled every moment with noise, and drowned out the uncomfortable stuff, laying blame everywhere except with myself. But here’s the truth I’m finally learning:
💡 I’m responsible for how I feel – and for the response I choose in the moment.
✨ If you’ve ever felt stuck in the same cycle – distracting, numbing, or running from what’s really going on – know that you’re not alone. This is the kind of work I support my clients with: creating space, clarity, and balance so they can live more mindfully and with greater wellbeing.
