From awkward starts to beautiful growth
We all see the bullseye shots, 10 out of 10 performances, perfect landings, and jaw-dropping images. What we rarely see is the process that leads to those results.
In today’s world – where perfection is constantly on display, AI-generated content blurs reality and results are instant – the journey behind success is often overlooked. And when the process is invisible, we forget that true change takes time and fail to see the beauty in the process.
My Shuffle-Dance Reality Check
I had a fleeting interest in learning how shuffle dance after two super-mums appeared in my feed, moving with such ease, energy and joy that I thought: “Hang up the running shoes – I’m going to shuffle!”
But when I tried, I felt more like a giraffe on ice than a dancer.
Then I saw a woman documenting her practice: sweaty, frustrated, trying again and again to coordinate her feet into sequence and rhythm. Fast forward a few years and she’s shuffling like a pro.
I shouldn’t be surprised: It took me over 10 years of training to reach my sporting pinnacle. What looks effortless is never a five-minute learn. It is the result of persistence, practice, and patience: countless attempts, many failures and enough successes and belief in why it matters to stay the course. And I achieved none of my pinnacles alone.
What This Has to Do With Health Coaching
Behaviour change is much the same.
Health coaching breaks down the daunting idea of “becoming healthier” into small, meaningful steps. As your coach, I don’t walk the path for you—but I do walk beside you:
· Like guard rails, keeping you on the path.
· Like an air mattress, catching your falls.
· Like a pit crew, refuelling your tank and patching up the panels.
· Like a cheerleader, sparking you back up when motivation dips.
It’s your journey, your effort, your growth. But with the right support, the process of growth becomes something to treasure.
The Beauty in Change
So what’s your “shuffle” story – the thing you tried, only to stall without the right guidance and encouragement?
If getting started feels overwhelming, or you find yourself stuck in the cycle of avoiding, delaying, or starting only to stop again, let’s connect.
I’d love to help you see the beauty in the process of growth.
